Blackberries are similar to raspberries with some of the same nutritional values and health benefits including antioxidants, vitamin C, and fiber. The blackberry can often be confused with the marionberry or black raspberry as the taste is not too much different either. Blackberries are sweet and go well with other sweeteners like whipped cream or condensed milk. Adding them to smoothies with a sweet cream gives the smoothie a very enjoyable taste. When selecting blackberries, check for moldy areas and smushed fruits as they can be bruised easily. Also, watch for plumpness of the small drupelets of the fruit and smell the blackberries for a good aroma which is a good sign of ripeness.

Blackberries go well with ice cream, whipped cream, and other sweet creams.

Yogurt & Blackberry Smoothie Recipe
1/2 cup blackberries(fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup ice cubes
1/2 a banana
1 tbsp of sugar
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup ice cubes
1/2 a banana
1 tbsp of sugar
Directions:
Blend the ice with the banana and yogurt until smooth. Add more ice cube as needed. Add the blackberries next and blend on low for 30 seconds and add sugar as needed for flavor.
Ice Cream Blackberry Smoothie Recipe
1/2 cup blackberries(fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1/2 banana
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
1/2 banana
1/2 cup milk
Directions:
Blend the milk with the banana and and blackberries until a slushy texture is formed. Add ice cream for extra sweetness and blend till smooth.
